MEMORIES OF PIESSE BROOK SCHOOL
Doris Mynors (Nee Palmer)

I grew up with the knowledge that it was due to my father, Walter Henry Palmer, and two or three other like-minded men, that the school was built.

That – Miss Elliott (first teacher) boarded with my parents.
Of – Miss Sloman, who was the teacher of my first four years, being a good and fair teacher.

Of – Miss Peacock, where we often had extended lunch hours when her boyfriend called to see her.

Of – Mrs. Miller, who on a cold morning would have us run (down and back) to the bridge on Mundaring Weir Road, to warm us up and get our blood pumping so we would work better.

Of – collecting cow manure for the vegetable garden we were encouraged to grow for the war effort. Think we won a prize for one of the best. Never did know what happened to the vegetables.

DORIS PALMER

Of – brother Gorden being made to sit out on the verandah for maths for a set time, with the instructions to get them right, and he usually did.

Of – Gorden saying Miss Peacock lived by her name and had eyes in the back of her head, because she heard a noise, without stopping or turning her head, she would tell Gorden to “stop it”.

Of – practising for school sports in the middle of Aldersyde Road.
